School Chaplains hold a unique position in the community. Chaplains work with and complement existing school support services such as the guidance officer and are placed at a school only at the request of a joint committee consisting of representatives from the School Administration, Parents, Ministers and Fraternal and Students.
Since Scripture Union Queensland first introduced a Chaplain to a State school in 1990, Chaplaincy Services have been implemented in more than 600 schools across Queensland.
The Chaplaincy Programs at Mountain Creek State School comprise:
TEAM Program (Together Everyone Achieves More) takes place in the first term and links in with the school Behaviour Management program. This program focuses on behavioural strategies.
“Getting to Know You” Program involves Preps and new students to the school and is also run in the first term to welcome students to the school.
Changing Places Program (Community Solutions) is designed to help new parents to the school form networks and an opportunity to meet administrative staff and answer any questions.
The Brekkie Program runs every Wednesday morning before school providing not only breakfast for students but also time to get to know members of the Chaplaincy Service and other students in a safe environment.
Year level camps are attended by the school Chaplain.
Shine is for Year 7 girls. This programme is designed to build confidence, self worth and resilience. It is run over 10 weeks twice a year.
8 Hour Famine is a fundraiser which aims to educate students on the hunger problem across the World.
We offer a Pastoral Care Program in cooperation with other school support staff provide support to students, families and staff in times of personal crisis
This service may include:
- Help with emotional and spiritual needs
- Providing positive role modelling
- Running proactive programs to support students struggling with low self esteem or anxiety
- One on one Mentoring
- Practical support for families e.g. Food parcels, clothes, uniforms, money, etc.
- Assisting new families to the school – The Changing Places Program
